Me and My Desk Plant

My husband, who loves gardening, gave me a plant from our garden for my office, saying, "It's a strong plant, and it grows beautiful shaped leaves, you know?" It was such a lovely and happy gesture, but I have a bit of anxiety about it...

When I was younger and working in an office, I bought a cactus to have something nice to look at on my desk. My own office desk had a skylight and a really nice atmosphere. Having a plant there felt like the best! A colleague who recommended it also said it was strong and wouldn't die, so I decided to give it a try.

For a while, I watered it properly and took care of it... but contrary to what I was told, it withered in about two weeks.

Yes, it seems I'm just not good at growing plants. Well, I was busy this time and only glanced at it occasionally, and maybe I put it in too much sun. I can raise humans, but plants don't seem to be my thing.

The cactus in the picture is the second generation, repotted by my husband who was probably fed up with me. I'm thinking that if I keep a record of this here on the Swelly Blog, I might take it a little more seriously, but who knows?!
